You are eligible if you are:

  • A permanent resident* of Canada

  • OR
  • A Canadian citizen born outside of Canada
  • OR
  • A protected person as defined in Section 95 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act who is legally entitled to work in Canada and Nova Scotia
  • AND
  • Facing barriers to employment. Barriers may include non-transferable credentials, lack of Canadian work experience and linguistic barriers.

Web Specialist

Reports to: Digital Platforms Manager

Wages: $12.35 per hour

Hours: 37.5 hours a week with 30 minutes (or 1 hour) unpaid lunch break. As the Museum operates 7 days a week, the work week may include Saturdays and/or Sundays.

Duration: Six month, hourly position starting in May 1, 2018 and ending in October 31, 2018.

Position Summary

This position offers the successful WHTC Participant a six-month term working with the Museum’s Digital Platforms Team. Reporting to the Digital Platforms Manager, the Web Specialist will assist in the development of web-based features and interfaces that convey the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21’s online brand.

Responsibilities

  • Write standards-compliant, cross-browser compatible HTML5 & CSS
  • Update code and content by implementing the Government of Canada’s Web and Accessibilities Standards to our existing web properties.
  • Assist in the development of web-based features and interfaces, from concept and design to production to launch
  • Use Photoshop and/or other tools and workflows for exporting production-ready assets
  • Use GIT for version control

Skills Required

  • Diploma in Information Technology with an emphasis on web development or a Diploma in Digital Media or related field
  • Working knowledge of PHP, jQuery or other JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience with Drupal/Wordpress content management systems
  • Willingness to update skills and learn new techniques on an on-going basis
  • Creative and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving
  • A flexible attitude with proven experience of working independently and in a small team
  • Attention to detail
