Peacefully, Marta (Martha) Ingeborg Simonson, in her 88th year, passed away on October 19th, 1995, at the Holiday Haven Nursing Home.

Martha was born in Larv, Skaraborgs, Lan Vastergotland, Sweden, on November 10th, 1907, and immigrated to Winnipeg in 1928.

She was predeceased by her husband Torger in 1974, her parents, August and Ida Hallquist, her sisters Anna, Ester and Martina and brothers Erik, Johan and Karl om Sweden and brothers Nils and Gunnar in Massachusetts, USA. She was also predeceased by one grandchild, Wesley Hannah.

Martha will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family, daughter Viola (Alvar) in Sweden; sons Gordon (Peggi) and Douglas (Sherry) in B.C.; daughters Astrid (Fred) and Dorothy (Ken); sons Ted (Joy) Carl (Edith), Gary, Lloyd (Betty) in Manitoba; 25 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Martha, along with her husband and family, farmed in the Woodlands area of Manitoba from the mid 1930’s until 1975, when she moved to the Swedish Canadian Home for Senior Citizens in Winnipeg. In 1982 she moved back to Woodlands to Oak Park Lodge for 9 years. Her last home was Holiday Haven Nursing Home for four years.

Her family sincerely thank the Nursing Home staff for their tender loving care of our mother in her final years.

Our mother will always be remembered for her wonderful cooking, her sense of humour, and her good management skills and hard work on the farm.

Memorial service will be held on Monday, October 23 at 2 p.m. in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Pastor Donald Sjoberg will officiate. The service will terminate at the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Martha can be made to Holiday Haven Nursing Home, Oak Park Lodge in Woodlands or Swedish Canadian Home for Senior Citizens.

MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall, in care of arrangements.
