W. Galen Weston, O.C.
Born 1940, the youngest of nine children, he came to Canada from England at age four. Though from a prominent family, in his early twenties he struck out on his own and built a chain of grocery and department stores in Ireland. At 31, he returned to Canada to lead his family’s North American businesses and is credited with a “textbook turnaround” of their operations. With holdings in supermarkets, bakeries and merchandising, he is also president of the W. Garfield Weston Foundation, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all Canadians. W. Galen Weston is a builder of Canada.

Né en 1940, M. Galen Weston, O.C. est le cadet d’une famille de neuf enfants. À l’âge de quatre ans, sa famille a quitté l’Angleterre pour s’installer au Canada. Même s’il était fils d’une famille prospère, M. Weston est parti vivre seul au début de la vingtaine et il a construit une chaîne d’épiceries et de grands magasins en Irlande. À l’âge de 31 ans, il est revenu au Canada pour diriger les entreprises nord-américaines dont sa famille était propriétaire et il a transformé complètement leurs activités. En plus de posséder des avoirs dans des supermarchés, des boulangeries et des sociétés de marchandisage, il est président de la W. Garfield Weston Foundation, qui est vouée à améliorer la qualité de vie de tous les Canadiens. W. Galen Weston a joué un rôle important au Canada.
