I am young and old, rich and poor, free and enslaved, fleeing and seeking. I came from every part of the world, with family and alone, with nothing and everything. Two stories complete me – the story I came from and the story I started when I landed in Canada. These merge in the next generation into gratitude to a country which has made it possible for my children to have only one story – the Canadian story. Pier 21 stands as an important marker of our past, and as a place to celebrate the continued contributions of newcomers to Canada.

Je suis jeune ou vieux, riche ou pauvre, libre ou asservi; je fuis ou je cherche. Je viens de tous les coins du monde, avec ma famille ou seul, avec tout ou rien. J’ai deux histoires : celle d’où je viens et celle que j’ai commencée depuis mon arrivée au Canada. Ces histoires se fondent l’une dans l’autre et se muent en une gratitude à l’égard d’un pays qui a permis à mes enfants d’avoir une seule histoire – une histoire canadienne. Le Quai 21 est un jalon important de notre passé, un endroit où nous pouvons célébrer la contribution continue des nouveaux venus à la société canadienne.
