The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 will be part of Canada's new ePassport

October 26, 2012, Halifax, NS—The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 will be one of the featured images in the new edition of the Canadian ePassport. The official announcement will be made by the Honourable John Baird, Minister of Foreign Affairs, when he unveils a major security overhaul for the new ePassport on behalf of the Government of Canada.

The new enhanced security features and images will serve to keep the Canadian passport one of the world’s most secure travel documents, while showcasing Canada’s history, heroes and the building of our great nation.

Remembering Ruth Goldbloom

August 30, 2012, Halifax, NS—It is with a profound sense of loss that the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 acknowledges the passing of Ruth Goldbloom, O.C., O.N.S.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our co-founder, colleague and friend. The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 would not exist if it was not for Ruth’s vision, tireless efforts and passionate leadership.” said John Oliver, Chairperson of the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21.  “She was a champion for the Museum, from its restoration in 1999 and in its journey to becoming a national museum and beyond. Her spirit will forever be part of Pier 21.”

Marie Chapman appointed first CEO

Marie Chapman was appointed the first CEO of the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. The announcement was made on October 25, 2011, by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Chapman," said Minister Moore. "She is a creative, resourceful professional with passion for the cause, and she brings with her a wealth of talent and knowledge that is sure to benefit the Museum."

Ms. Chapman was a central figure in the establishment of the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 while working at the Pier 21 Society as Chief Operating Officer. She was the Director of Marketing, Sales, and Development at the Museum from 2003 to 2011 and has been its Chief Operating Officer since 2008.
