Pier 21 Society Volunteer Position: Visitor Services Attendant
Position Summary:
Animate the exhibit space proactively and answer questions pertaining to Exhibition Hall and Pier 21’s history, ensure all visitors have purchased tickets to the museum, and engage in roll playing activities with the general public and special interest groups.
Responsibilities:
- Meet and greet visitors to the museum, provide tourist information, and promote on site services such as the Research Centre, Gift Shop and Café.
- Ensure visitors entering Exhibition Hall have purchased tickets.
- Ensure visitor satisfaction through excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Participate in a role-playing activity in which you play the role of an immigration officer.
- Monitor and assist visitors on an as needed basis.
- Staff various posts inside and outside of the Pier 21 museum on a rotational basis.
- Report any concerns to the Manager of Visitor Services or to the Visitor Services Team Leader.
Required Skill/Experience:
- Genuine interest and knowledge relating to Canadian immigration history and World War II.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Approachability.
- Good command of the English language.
Occurrence
Time/Place: Work must occur during the hours of operation of Pier 21’s Exhibition Hall.
Length of Commitment: Flexible, minimum of 3 hours per week.
Working Conditions:Work occurs in the Pier 21 facility. Standing is required.

Training & Supervision
Training/Preparation: Museum welcome and general orientation provided by the Manager of Museum Visitor Services and the Visitor Services Team Leader.
Supervision: This position reports to the Manager, Museum Visitor Services and to the Visitor Services Team Leader.
